Tourist Attractions of Ormoc City

LAKE DANAO
One of the three beautiful lakes of Ormoc and one of the famous tourist attractions in Eastern Visayas owing to its violin-shaped 148 hectares exceptionally beautiful inland lake with crystal-clear water, nestling in an elevation ranging from 480 t o 900 meters above sea level, evergreen mountain ranges, coupled with cool and invigorating climate, serene and pristine environment The 2,193 hectares park lies in the heart of the Leyte central mountain ranges northeast of Ormoc City. It is 18 kilometers away and 30 minute drive from the city proper. the surrounding forest contains a wide variety of flora and fauna. The park is an ideal place booth for outdoor recreational activities and scientific studies. Popular activities in the park are boating, swimming, camping, trekking, biking, picnic and sightseeing.


LAKE KASUDSURAN
Lake Kasudsuran is a 5-hectare lake located in the virgin forest of Brgy. Gaas. Mt. Janagdan is the highest peak at 1,000 meters above sea level situated at Brgy. Cabingtan, and is about 19 kilometers northeast of the city. Lakes Kasudsuran and Janagdanis also worth exploring.



GEOTHERMAL PLANT

Situated in Tongonan area east of the city with five power plants wherein one of which is the largest single power plant in the world. The Leyte Geothermal Production Field is the largest wet steam producing geothermal field in the world and produces a total of 708MW of which 61% of PNOC-EDC’s combined geothermal output and 37% of total power generated from geothermal sources in the world. Generated powers are distributed in the Leyte Island, part of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao via sub-sea cables.


PINEAPPLE PLANTATION
Ormoc takes pride on its Queen Pineapple, famous for its sweetness that even people from faraway places prefer our variety. Visitors make it a point to bring along bundles of the famous Queen for pasalubong, making the city somewhat synonymous with the fruit. Pineapple fields lies in 210 hectares in rolling terrain located north of the city Brgy. Hibunawon and part of Kananga area. An average daily harvest is estimated at 2,000 pieces. The site is 30 minutes and about 19 kilometers away from the city center accessible only by private vehicles. Pineapple is marketed in the region and the neighboring islands.


LEYTE GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB

Overlooking the Ormoc bay with a backdrop of majestic mountains and rolling hills lies the Leyte Golf and Country Club. The course is located 7 kilometers from the heart of Ormoc City. It is a premier golfing resort covering more than 80 hectares of semi-rolling terrain nestled on a plateau with palms, coconut, fruit-bearing trees and flowering shrubs. The course challenges your style of play, yet relaxes you as you traverse its lush green fairways.



AGUA DULCE ARTISAN WELL
Derived from its Spanish name “aguadulce” meaning “sweet water”. True to its name the water that flows throughout the day is the sweetest and the safest among the six flowing wells constructed in the city during the Spanish time. To this date, only three of these wells are existing. It is one of the major sources of drinking water of the Ormocanons until now.



FUENTE DE LA REINA
Known as the oldest bridge in the city, its cobblestones are still intact, relic of an age long gone. It was built in the early 1800รข€™s but was completed in 1861. During the Spanish era, the bridge served as a docking area for sailboats, vintas of Chinese, Javans and Indonesians who frequented the island to sell their produce. The bridge is still in use today. It is situated near the twin buildings of the Executive and Legislative branch of the city and beside the Ormoc City Hall.


MASS GRAVE
Situated within the City Proper, the site where the remains of Victims of the 1991 flash flood tragedy. Every November 5th of the year, a commemorative mass and laying of flowers is held on the area.



CENTENNIAL PARK
The Veterans Park was constructed in early 1990s in honor of the Filipino soldiers who fought for the liberation of Leyte and the Philippines. The Centennial Marker was erected in 1998 to commemorate the 100th year of Philippine independence. One gets a good view of the bay, the port and the plaza, from this point. It is a favorite rendezvous for the young and old alike for picnics and leisurely strolls on its verdant lawn. And from here, one can experience the refreshing breeze from the sea and witness the magnificent beauty of the sunset.



PHIL-JAPS PEACE MEMORIAL
An impressive memorial marker put up by the Nagoya and Gifu Prefectures as a token of friendship of Japanese and Filipinos in the aftermath of World War II. It is situated in one of the city’s picturesque hills overlooking Ormoc Bay. Japanese visitors frequented this area in memory of their beloved countrymen who fought in World War II.
