In the morning of November 5, 1991,
Ormoc was devastated by a terrible wrath of nature. As fast as it came, the
terrible flood left so swiftly, bringing with it the lives of thousands and
leaving behind a city of mud, rubble, and chaos.
The tragedy caused the loss of the
lives of thousands (4922 deaths and 3,000 missing) and more than Six Hundred
Twenty Million Pesos (P620 Million) worth of damages to property.
It was during this tragic time when
the grieving Ormocanons felt the universal brotherhood of men of different
races, politics and religion, when the entire world became one in sharing with
our grief and sorrow.
For those who survived, the painful
memory of the 1991 Ormoc Flashflood Tragedy is etched in the hearts and minds
forever.
